With reports coming in that Renault is very likely to announce it’s retaking over of Team Lettuce, there also comes a reason why Lotus is so cash strapped right now. Pastor Maldonado’s future as a driver is up in the air so PDVSA has yet to give the team its annual payment of $50,000,000. Yes, every year that Pastor stays on as a driver, Team Lotus gets 50 million dollars, and that money typically gets paid near the summer break. So, my question is, “Is Pastor Maldonado worth $50 mill?” Does Renault say C.R.E.A.M. and keep his crashieness on board or do they bring in a driver capable of not wrecking almost every weekend?

Depending on the season, that could still be a loss, especially when he takes Grosjean out in the process.

But I say keep him and keep rigging his car to “lose power” until they can find a comparable sponsor.

If Renault does happen to buy out Lotus I think they will shit can Pastor. He does bring a lot of money to the table but Renault doesn’t really need it. Renault will be more interested in getting results than they will be trying to stay alive. On the other hand Pastor has been driving for a number of years and 50 mil is a shit load of money Renault can use for R&D and new car parts that they will eventually need.

I don’t really mind him as a driver. He isn’t a $50mm driver, but he’s a Formula 1 driver. He just crashes/gets crashed into a lot.
